Only a handful of producers genuinely make new styles of music, and Hudson Mohawke (Ross to his friends) is one. He's a trendsetter: a pioneer of the new music goldrush. HudMo and his peers influence hundreds and thousands of DJs, producers and music lovers, and spread their fingerprint sounds far beyond their record releases and collaborations. Flash-in-the-pan "EDM" this is not.
It was a guy called Lars in the Focusrite Novation R&D team who first brought Hudson Mohawke to our attention. It was 2009 and his now classic Butter album was about to be released on Warp Records, to great critical acclaim. Since then, we've watched him rise and rise. Through collaborations with the likes of fellow LuckyMe artists Mike Slott (http://youtu.be/gxOie0SqFDc) and Lunice (http://youtu.be/Gh82yO9sazw), the latter of whom he formed the TNGHT project with, to his signing to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music production team, Hudson Mohawke is today one of the world's most in-demand producers.
Ross takes a Focusrite Forte on the road with him wherever he goes, as he explains: "I've got a second laptop that I use for production when I'm travelling to other studios. The Forte is my main interface for that machine — it sounds really good and it's also nice that it works as a transport control in FL Studio."
